It is a mailbox, and there's even one in Union Station near the entrance to the metro on the Amtrak end of the platform.It's cute, but the one on the street seems more "real." If that makes sense!

There's an R2 mailbox in Old Town too. Love it!
I voted for the Darth Vader one yesterday, but I like the Leia/R2 one as well.
